Take a look at David Hockney's Photo Collages on his website. He takes multiple photos while standing in one location and then arranges the photos together to create the whole picture. We are going to do this using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. But first your homework is to take photos. When you find your subject imagine that you have a blank grid in front of you and you have to take a picture for each area of the grid. Make sure you take 60-100 photos of your subject! Use a digital camera or your phone. If you use your phone make sure the quality is decent (at least 4 mega pixel) or else borrow a camera.

Canvas Transfer:
So this year we are changing things up. As you can see I added squares of color into the Photo Collage and used Color Blending modes as well. That is the first change to this lesson. The second is that we are cropping the image so that it fits onto an 11x14" canvas. We are going to transfer the image to a canvas! I am slightly obsessed with this new technique. Auto batch Tutorial:

Objectives:

  • Create an interesting composition. (SO IMPORTANT, please do this at home so that your not stuck taking photos of the school)
  • Use multiple photos (about 20) like puzzle pieces to recreate an image.
  • Rotate 3 Colors found within the collage throughout the collage. Use Rectangles.
  • Use of Color Blending Modes to enhance your composition.
  • Auto batch to resize photos.
  • Transfer from paper to canvas
